ART BASEL: ANSELM REYLE AND WILHELM SASNAL AT KOOKU GALLERY

In conjunction with Art Basel, Kooku Gallery presents the exhibition 'Inner/Outer'  including carpets by Henzel Studio artists Anselm Reyle and Wilhelm Sasnal. For HENZEL STUDIO, Anselm Reyle translated a work from his foil series into the media at hand. Silk has been applied to areas for added sheen that would otherwise provide reflection from the original material. Sasnal adapted a pencil drawing of outlines onto graph paper into the media at hand. Variable pile heights of the graphite lines create a carved effect, whereas enhanced composition of silk in the graphed areas create contrast and nuance.

HENZEL STUDIO X ANDY WARHOL AT LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA

HENZEL STUDIO is pleased to announce a site-specific display of HENZEL STUDIO x ANDY WARHOL at Interni during the 57th international art exhibition in Venice.
Designed by Calle Henzel and curated by Joakim Andreasson, the Andy Warhol collection marks the second installment of Henzel Studio Heritage, developed with foundations and estates of the most prominent artists of the 20th century. For Henzel Studio Heritage: Andy Warhol, Andreasson identified and applied as basis for the collection a maquette Warhol created for an unrealized artists book. The handmade model consists of thirty-eight octagonal pages, each a die-cut detail from Warhol’s print edition set of Marilyn Monroe dated 1967 that includes ten variations of the iconic star. The maquette was discovered in Warhol’s Time Capsule 55 in 1994, one of 610 cardboard boxes he filled and dated from 1974 until his death in 1987.

EXHIBITION IN CONJUNCTION WITH TOM HOUSE: THE WORK AND LIFE OF TOM OF FINLAND AT MOCA DETROIT

FROZEN PALMS presents TOM OF FINLAND X HENZEL STUDIO in conjunction with TOM HOUSE: THE WORK AND LIFE OF TOM OF FINLAND AT MOCA DETROIT. On view April 19 - May 19, 2018. Coinciding with the exhibition, TOM House: The Work and Life of Tom of Finland at MOCA Detroit, Frozen Palms presents a highlight of carpets designed in collaboration with Tom of Finland Foundation.
Tom of Finland’s drawings – remarkable not only for their masterful rendering, but also their fantastical representation of the male form – have been long celebrated for their radical role in broadening the popular understanding of Queer experience in art. Placed in context with his peers, the assemblage of these artworks engages a sensational narrative, one that helped define a generation. The integration Tom of Finland’s work into the media at hand – hand made rugs and pillows – was ignited by the unique environment and interior elements that make TOM House. Located in Echo Park, Los Angeles, it is home of Tom of Finland Foundation, guardians of the artist’s body of work and living archive for the erotic arts, and where Tom permanently lived for the last decade of his life.

HENZEL STUDIO X RICHARD PRINCE AT OPERAE TURIN

HENZEL STUDIO is pleased to announce a site-specific display of HENZEL STUDIO COLLABORATIONS: Richard Prince at the independent design fair Operae in Turin. Curated by Secondome Gallery, Rome. Richard Prince has since the late 70’s filtered imagery from mass media, advertising and entertainment, and through re-appropriation turned them into original works, thereby redefining concepts of authorship, ownership and artistic context. Applying his understanding of representation and the complex transactions involved in the making of art, he evolved a unique signature that is unquestionably his own. His selection of mediums and subject matters, as well as his practice of cropping, editing, and sequencing of images, suggest a uniquely individual logic.
