ON THE OCCASION OF ART BASEL HONG KONG: JOYCE X HENZEL STUDIO

HENZEL STUDIO showcases hand-knotted art rugs in JOYCE Central store in conjunction with Hong Kong Art Basel 2018. Led by artist and Creative Director Calle Henzel and Joakim Andreasson, the studio collaborates directly with prominent contemporary artists to translate their respective practice, whether it be painting, drawings, photographs, collages, reliefs or sculpture on to this unusual medium. Considered works of art in their own right, a special curation of limited edition rugs selected from Henzel Studio’s collaborations with contemporary artists are exhibited and available for purchase in the Central flagship store. The exhibition marks the debut of Henzel Studio’s artist collaborations in Asia, and the worldwide unveiling of four new art carpets; three by Norwegian artist Bjarne Melgaard and one by Swiss artist Olaf Breuning.

HENZEL STUDIO X ANDY WARHOL AT LA BIENNALE DI VENEZIA

HENZEL STUDIO is pleased to announce a site-specific display of HENZEL STUDIO x ANDY WARHOL at Interni during the 57th international art exhibition in Venice.
Designed by Calle Henzel and curated by Joakim Andreasson, the Andy Warhol collection marks the second installment of Henzel Studio Heritage, developed with foundations and estates of the most prominent artists of the 20th century. For Henzel Studio Heritage: Andy Warhol, Andreasson identified and applied as basis for the collection a maquette Warhol created for an unrealized artists book. The handmade model consists of thirty-eight octagonal pages, each a die-cut detail from Warhol’s print edition set of Marilyn Monroe dated 1967 that includes ten variations of the iconic star. The maquette was discovered in Warhol’s Time Capsule 55 in 1994, one of 610 cardboard boxes he filled and dated from 1974 until his death in 1987.

HENZEL STUDIO X RICHARD PRINCE AT OPERAE TURIN

HENZEL STUDIO is pleased to announce a site-specific display of HENZEL STUDIO COLLABORATIONS: Richard Prince at the independent design fair Operae in Turin. Curated by Secondome Gallery, Rome. Richard Prince has since the late 70’s filtered imagery from mass media, advertising and entertainment, and through re-appropriation turned them into original works, thereby redefining concepts of authorship, ownership and artistic context. Applying his understanding of representation and the complex transactions involved in the making of art, he evolved a unique signature that is unquestionably his own. His selection of mediums and subject matters, as well as his practice of cropping, editing, and sequencing of images, suggest a uniquely individual logic.
