HENZEL STUDIO COLLABORATIONS: OLAF BREUNING

HENZEL STUDIO is proud to announce a collaboration with New York-based Swiss artist Olaf Breuning. Breuning’s carpet, re-appropriated from a photograph, represents human forms covered in a black and white pattern, a manifestation that fuses performance and visual art. His work humorously reflects on his observation of human behavior and interaction, and contemporary cultural and political concerns.

EXPANDED COLLABORATION: JACK PIERSON X HENZEL STUDIO / ON VIEW AT GAVLAK GALLERY, PALM BEACH

To expand on our ongoing collaboration with Pierson, two additional designs launched in late 2018. Here, Pierson re-appropriated pieces from his abstract sculpture series. The first one, based on ABSTRACT #12 (2008) is a freeform design with a surface treatment that replicates a worn vintage feel though variable material compositions of wool and silk. For the second design, Pierson re-appropriated a component of his sculpture GOIN HOME (2011). The connected shapes creates free-form carpet with variable pile heights for dimension and enhanced use of silk to increase contrast.

COLLABORATION WITH LOS ANGELES-BASED ARTIST JWAN YOSEF

HENZEL STUDIO is proud to announce a collaboration with Los Angeles-based artist JWAN YOSEF in the creation of a limited edition carpet based on his work with masking tape.

In a way, I don’t really consider this carpet as two-dimensional. I worked with masking tape as a reference and the carpet became a pretty accurate three-dimensional imitation of that real object. The elevations of the crossing pieces of “tape” are pretty real in proportions. I wanted to superimpose the idea of an adhesive object. To somehow tie in a room and its contents together through the image of a strip of masking tape. This all made it an obvious and fun object to work with. - YWAN JOSEF
